21. YOUR CONTENT MIX

Instagram can be magical when we follow accounts that inspire us. But how do we use Instagram ourselves? Are we just going to post on it or have we set up a strategy? Instagram won't work without a good content strategy, unless we're called Kim Kardashian. What I'm trying to say is that the less well-known brands you Instagram are for or the less known you are, the sooner you should think about your content mix on Instagram.

Today’s challenge should be about your content mix. The choice of content on Instagram depends on your business and what your followers would like to see from you. Think of a maximum of 4-5 buckets from which you feed your content. You can think of them like content categories on your blog. From these buckets, you choose a mix of those that suit you to present the different aspects of the brand. You don’t have to operate all of these elements, but choose consciously. It can only be a bucket if that fits your brand. Each of your posts should then belong to one of the selected buckets and be posted in a meaningful change. Common content genres are:

Use mini-tutorials or photo series to show short instructions that they can learn from you.

πˆππ’ππˆπ‘π€π“πˆπŽπ
What inspires you? Share it in pictures, quotes or personal stories.

Think about ways you can sweeten your followers’ day. What goes down well are jokes, funny quotes or videos that also lead to interaction.

Offer up-down content. This is precisely the inspiring content that offers the user added value.

Think about how your community can become part of your Instagram world. Integrate images from your community into your feed (use hashtags) and always give credit when you repost!

Let your followers look behind the scenes. What does your content production look like? Your everyday life.. making-of, about you & team? Show a few exclusive insights into your working life. Show your products and the service behind them too. But tuned to Instagram. (use styled images instead of pure product images, for example with flatlays) and don’t become advertising! Think of application photos as well.

INDIVIDUAL IMAGERY + CAPTIONS
The next step is to think more specifically about what your pictures and captions should be made of. Brainstorm ideas that fit into one of the content buckets. For example, in β€œbehind-the-scenes” content, you could show pictures of your workplace or production site, pictures of yourself or your team at work. You could use educational content as a quote or a catchphrase. Or simply with a beautiful picture to which you write a suitable caption.

Your brand voice comes out in the  Captions. Be sure to use them to show the personality of your brand, for your brand storytelling and to connect with your community. Provide her with useful information or inspiration, depending on which content bucket the post feeds from. Tell the story of the creation of the pictures or start a conversation. Microblogging through longer captions has already proven itself on Instagram, but short & sweet captions in between are also inspiring. Captions should grab their attention and motivate your community to leave you a comment. Show your community that their opinion is important to you. Ultimately, you can activate conversations with inspiring content, and yes: that makes work! But it also makes a lot of sense, because social media without social is just media.

By the way: Image and caption don’t have to relate to each other, but the overall picture should be consistent. For example, with lifestyle content, you could show where to find inspiration or illustrate what it’s like to work with you or your products.

To-do:

Now think about a maximum of 4-5 buckets from which you feed your content. But always think about the last 9 to 12 photos that should be particularly consistent with each other.

A little tip: Don’t try to overturn the strategy too quickly and start something new. Better to stick to your strategy for a while to have a consistent feed and build in changes gradually and slowly.

Well, let your creativity run wild. It doesn’t always have to be complicated… πŸ™‚

Do you already have an idea how you would like to implement it. Write it in the comments and let’s share your content mix together.
